Ravenwhisker led the two apprentices out of the camp. What do you smell she said as the she caught some preyscent in her nostrils.

Well I smell I guess it's rabbit or mouse but it mostly smells like rabbit!She waited for her mentor to tell her what to do or at least watch her go for the prey.

Ravenwhisker's eyes were filled with pride at her apprentice. That's right! It IS a rabitShe cautiously snuck up on the unexpecting rabbit, making sure she was facing the wind so that it blew behind her, not towards the rabbit. when she was close enough, she pelted after the rabit, who tried to run but was too late, Ravenwhisker finished it off quickly. See, THAT is how you kill a rabit!But, let's not go to fast, you saw my stalk right?

Yes I did. Rainpaw whispered so she wouldn't scare any prey off.

I smell something too. Hawkpaw said, jaws parting a small bit. I think it's...a squirrel. How do you catch squirrels, Ravenwhisker? He asked quietly, trying not to scare any prey that they could catch away.

well, Squirrels take to the trees if they think they're in danger, you make sure the wind is blowing your scent AWAY from your prey and the will feel the movement in the ground from your pawsteps, so you place your weight in your haunches. Try it, both of you, let me see your best hunting crouch!

Hawkpaw crouched low and stalked the squirrel. He didn't pounce yet because he looked back at Ravenwhisker to see if he was doing it right.

Rainpaw did the same and quicly saw that the wind was blowing their scent toward the squirrel.She quickly made her way so that her the squirrels scent was moving toward her, she looked at Ravenwhisker to see if she was doing it correctly.

Ravenwhisker nodded, showing the 2 aprentices that what they were doing is right. SHe wondered who would catch the squirrel first, if at all!

Rainpaw saw that she was right and started to get closer at the squirrel.She pounced and caught it but the squirrel was moving too much.She tried to kill it but she kept missing and instead of hitting the ground she was hitting the bark.She felt stupid that she couldn't kill it.Then she finally killed it.She grabbed it and padded over to her mentor. She felt stupid and proud at the same time.

Good job!! She knew that her apprentice really had done a good job, she was still learning. Hawkpaw, the next one is yours! They walked around for a little while. Ravenwhisker scented a young rabbit not to far off. Now, do you remember what I taught you about hunting rabbits? DO you want to try?

Sure, i'll try. Hawkpaw whispered. Yeah, I remember how to do it. I have to make sure the wind is facing me so the rabbit can't smell me. And rabbits can run faster then me so I have to get close to it before pouncing. He said as he made sure the wind was blowing towards him. He then stalked very slowly towards the rabbit. When he thought he was close enough, he pounced but misjudged the distance and landed right behind the rabbit. The rabbit tried to run but Hawkpaw quickly bit down on its neck, killing it instantly.

Ravenwhisker let out a purr. Both the apprentices were doing well. She let sent Hawkpaw home to do a little more training with Rainpaw, showing all the different stawking teqnuiqes before calling it a day. Let's collect your prey and return to camp, you have done well!

Nice catch, Hawkpaw!Rainpaw looked at Hawkpaw and then looked at her mentor.She twitched her ear as she smelled some rats, Rats!She hissed at her mentor and at Hawkpaw.Can't they hurt us?

Yes, that is Barley and Ravenpaws old home, you have heard the stories by the elders many times I believe, I did not realise we have come so far, let's go back and report their apperance so far into Windclan territory to Firestar, hurry! She started running towards camp. Something is wrong with this, the rats never come this far!
